Although my hiking days are far behind me, this tale made me very nostalgic for them. I loved your story and especially the picture of you shouting for joy. Great post, thank you.
Great story, Hiroko! I had a grandfather who was a mountain guy as well, but more for skiing - back in the days with no lifts and wooden skis that would break your legs if you fell wrong!
Reading this reminded me that I haven't been out on a big hike in too long, need to do something about that!
I love this story! I hope to hike more of Japan's beautiful mountains once the weather allows & can only dream of finding good nakama there like you did. I've always found it charming how people tend to say hello & be friendly to fellow mountain climbers--when I came to Japan, I was pleasantly surprised that this aspect is exactly the same as in my home country!
I was very surprised, and humbled, by the mention, but not surprised at all when you said plaid was wearing jeans! It was like I was there!
Such an entertaining read, Yoda-san - thank you, and many congratulations on your forthcoming book!
What a great story, and the photos are wonderful!
Lovely story! Your writing made me feel like I was there too. Now I want to try hiking 😊
I really enjoyed this read! Makes me want to find interesting hills here in New Jersey and climb them!

What a lovely read. Made me reminisce about my hiking trips here in France.
